- Digital Prepress Specialist
Digital Prepress and Design Specialist prepares and produces digital files to be reproduced on our offset presses. In addition, quality graphic design is produced from customers' ideas and requirements. Production work ranges from submission of simple text documents, to modification of existing customer artwork, to designing new artwork including graphics and custom logos. Virtually all work produced in this operation originates in the Design Services Department.
What we need to drive our success: We’re looking for a person who possesses a combination of a can-do attitude, customer service skills, digital graphic production experience, design capabilities and problem solving abilities. These skills would be employed in the pre-flighting of client-supplied files. This means that you will be able to communicate with customers and staff members regarding the digital file set-up and preparation of incoming orders as well as creation of artwork for customers. You must also possess a detailed understanding of the most current graphics applications and hardware configurations.
Duties will include but aren’t limited to preflight, layout, corrections, proofing and ripping files to the press. Strong skills with Quark, and all Adobe Products are a must. – Sorry, and yes Microsoft Publisher too! You will also be responsible for maintaining the hardware and software requirements of the department. Qualified candidates for this position must have a several years of experience or related preflight experience. You must also have a strong working knowledge of preflighting software, color calibration, and imposition or Harlequin Rip software.
Responsibilities:
* Determines prepress requirements by reviewing work
orders, studying design, content, and specifications.
* Develops design concepts by evaluating space
requirements, type size and style, spacing, and graphics;
reviewing customer's designs.
* Obtains layout approval by submitting completed design and
layout; reviewing and implementing changes.
* Initiates printing production by transmitting files
* Prepares files for imaging to film or digital color imagers
* Maintains prepress files by filing and retrieving layouts.
* Keeps equipment operating by following operating
instructions; troubleshooting software problems/repairs.
* Updates job knowledge by participating in educational
opportunities; reading technical publications.
* Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership and
exploring opportunities to add value to the company.
Qualifications:
* College/university degree preferred.
* Several years in design-for-print, expertise in both Mac OSX
and PC Professional operating systems required.
* Demonstrated mastery of Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign,
PageMaker, PhotoShop, QuarkXpress, Microsoft Office
products.
* Experience with imagesetting and digital
prepress as well as IT.
* Must have proven competence on hardware/software problem
resolution.
* Self motivated with ability to work independently and under
tight deadlines.
* Ability to work in high-production environment and ability to
concentrate amid distractions.
* Strong organization skills and ability to multi-task
* Ability to design and document departmental operating
procedures
